Established in 2008, the 18th and Rhode Island Permaculture Garden in Potrero Hill, San Francisco has been evolving and maturing into what can now be called an Urban Food Forest. This site is a prime example of permaculture design in practice and serves as our classroom for this hands-on garden design learning series.
Each session, we will incorporate seasonal hands-on activity with exploration of the design topics underlying the evolution of the garden. Through this mix of design theory and action, we have the opportunity to deepen our understanding of how to design, build and maintain resilient urban gardens for food security and more.
While the hands-on portion will always shift according to the needs of the garden and season, the design topics covered will go in rotation so that you may take them in any order and come away with complete set of tools. Further, we encourage you to bring your own questions and projects for discussion.
